South Florida is known for it's magnificent beaches. Some are quiet and pristine like Juno and Jupiter Beach. Others are walking distance to activity, restaurants and shopping like Ft Lauderdale Beach, South Beach in Miami and Delray Beach. Parks are abundant, each offering different experiences. There are parks that offer waterskiing with cables so you don't need a boat (Okeeheelee and Quiet Waters Parks). Other parks offer nature trails, horseback riding, boating, jogging, public golf courses, picnic areas and so much more. With sunny weather year round, parks are a big part of life down here. There are also parks that offer boardwalks through everglade vegetation, that just make for a "nice walk". Many parks are also used by towns and villages to supplement their sports departments and so feature soccer, tennis and baseball fields. All this is in addition to our navigable waterways, walks and downtown areas near the intracoastal waterway. One of the largest lakes in the world, Lake Okeechobee, is situated in South Florida. It's been said it is one of the few natural lakes on the planet that can be seen from the moon. Florida is also relatively narrow. It is only a 2-3 hour drive from the east to west coast. That means day trips to the Gulf of Mexico and towns like Naples or Fort Myers Beach are possible.
